All Gloom Tenders carry a light of some sort, crafted by the individual barer. It can be anything from a modest candle holder, to a decadent lantern, or even a simple wooden torch. Gloom Tenders themselves are often cool, dark colors, with pops of bright accents that are capable of bioluminescence, but there have also been a good number of pastel-hued dragons in their midsts. Shadow-related magic is common, but so are light-based abilities. Many Gloom Tenders are also versed in potion-craft, often creating pocket-sized lights for the rest of dragonkind.

A vast, brooding wilderness of briarwood & mushroom forests, the Gloom Tender's homeworld is a tangle of thorns that outsiders can easily get lost in. The sun barely breaks through the outer rim of their deep woods, and it just gets darker the further you go. There are said to be countless dangers here, from mushroom-monsters to undead terrors. But throughout the deep, there is a trail of well cared for lanterns that lead to the Gloom Tender's central home: a sprawling necropolis with lighthouse-towers for each family of gravekeepers.

Said to be the reason the moon shines as bright as it does, Gloom Tenders are guardians of the dark. They deal in everything that the wider draconic communities are fearful of, or would rather shun and ignore because it's not "palatable" to the rest.

Darkness can be smothering, but with a Gloom Tender's light, even the scariest of places seem a little less grim. Gloom Tenders themselves can be macabre at times, as one of their primary roles is to carry out burial rites and tend to undead; they are mostly a misunderstood community.

Some less informed dragons think of them as witch-like, dabbling in "evil" magics and looking to trick the other communities, but this couldn't be further from the truth.
